As you get ready to make a reservation to rent a mini excavator, consider the following:
☐The Mini Excavator Brand and Size
Choosing the right equipment rental is imperative to the success of your project. First of all, it’s important to select a reputable equipment brand that you know you can trust—brands like Gehl, Kubota, or Kobelco, for example.
Next, you need to determine which mini excavator size best suits your project. Carefully review your project’s parameters and requirements, such as:
- The dimensions, terrain, and possible restrictions of your project site
- The ideal load capacity and weight
- Necessary digging depth and excavator reach
- Available attachments

☐Mini Excavator Add-Ons and/or Attachments
A mini excavator can do a lot—but it can do even more when you consider all the available attachments and add-ons. However, it’s crucial to note that some brands offer more attachments than others. Be sure to review your project requirements and make a list of all necessary attachments, and then share your list with The Equipment Source team when discussing your rental options.
☐How Long You Need the Excavator Rental
Before you make a reservation, you need to assess your project’s tasks and timeline to determine how long you’ll need your rental. Knowing when and how long you’ll require the mini excavator will play a role in what equipment is available.
☐The Availability and Location of the Mini Excavator
The Equipment Source has eight different locations with varying stock and availability of rental equipment. Our teams are ready to help you access the equipment you need, but we strongly encourage you to plan ahead with a reservation so we can ensure that your preferred equipment will be available and ready for you.
☐Excavator Pickup or Delivery Needs
Depending on the size of your mini excavator rental and your work site’s location and accommodations, it might be optimal for The Equipment Source to take care of delivering and picking up your rental for you.
However, it’s important to recognize that delivery and pickup services are not included in your rental fee. Instead, the total cost will depend on your location. You can find out more about our delivery and pickup services here.
☐Insurance and Maintenance Requirements
Insurance is not required for your mini excavator rental, so it is not included in the agreement. Instead, we include a Damage Waiver that costs roughly 13% of your rental fee. This covers any damage and typical wear and tear to the equipment.
Some people are comfortable purchasing their own insurance for the rental. In this case, you can call your insurance company and add The Equipment Source as a loss payee during your rental duration.
As for maintenance, The Equipment Source handles all maintenance and repair tasks—you just have to fill up the fuel tank as needed. If you plan to rent your equipment for a longer stretch, it’s good practice to ask our team if they have any recommendations that will help make your work easier.
☐Mini Excavator Prices
Your project’s budget is a key factor in the rental equipment selection process, and the total price of your rental is determined by multiple factors. Keep in mind:
- The daily rental fee/duration of your rental
- Delivery and pick-up fees
- Attachment and add-on fees
- The Damage Waiver fee
- Fuel usage
